What is Pamabrom used for?
This is an oral diuretic with mild effects. It is taken to give relief against temporary water retention, usually happening because of PMS (premenstrual syndrome) and menstruation. The cases it proves effective are swelling, water weight gain, and bloating, or even feeling of fullness. It can work well when taken with other menstrual products to treat fluid retention during menstrual period. It may offer some pain relief as well at such times.
How does Pamabrom work?
As a xanthine‑derived diuretic, this medicine causes frequent urination to clear off the accumulated excess water and liquids in the body. It has bromotheophylline, which helps in glomerular filtration. As a result, it reduces reabsorption of sodium in kidney tubes, causing efficient water release. It may also combat antidiuretic hormone effects with 2‑amino‑2‑methyl‑1‑propanol. Moreover, it gets rid of fluid-related symptoms during periods by increasing diuresis.

The active ingredient is an amalgamation of bromotheophylline with 2‑amino‑2‑methyl‑1‑propanol. It is provided as oral tablets, softgel capsules, caplets, and had a dose of 25mg to 50mg with diuretic effect when containing a single ingredient. It is taken as a fixed dose when taken with other medicines such as antihistamines, acetaminophen, etc. for relief from menstrual symptoms.
How long does Pamabrom take to act?
As the medicine increases urination frequently and amount of urine release, it is effective to reduce water retention during menstrual period. The positive effects are seen within a few hours of administration of the first dose. However, you must also take enough water for the medicine to work well. Symptomatic relief is at peak after several doses in a day. However, the effect depends on the menstrual symptoms and how much is the fluid retention.
How long does the treatment with Pamabrom last?
Meant for short-term use, this medicine is taken a few days before the onset of a menstrual period, such as 5 to 6 days before. You may continue the dose during periods under medical supervision if the symptoms are still a problem. Continue the medicine if the PMS symptoms exist for more than 10 days, but only after consent from a healthcare provider.
What are the Pamabrom benefits?
Pamabrom tackles PMS symptoms and related abdominal fullness, bloating, puffiness, and fluid retention. It may work well when combined with analgesics in reducing menstrual discomfort, giving pain relief, and reducing water retention-related weight gain. It also helps in daily functioning and health during menstrual period.

For adults, the single-ingredient Pamabrom dose is 50mg taken orally maximum four times a day. In the case of menstrual period, people may start taking this medicine 5 to 6 days beforehand, not going over 200mg per day. While this medicine is tolerated well by individuals, it can have some temporary side effects, especially a change in urine color, mainly golden-colored due to xanthine in the medicine.
